AppeTypes: Survey of Appetite types in Primary School children

The AppeTypes online survey asks about your child’s typical eating behaviour and requests for food during a number of different situations, e.g. during and between meals. Differences in appetite types are partly due to genetic factors, but can also be shaped by children’s early life experiences. In addition, some rare diseases and conditions can disrupt the body’s control of appetite. AppeTypes aims to improve our understanding of the control of appetite and help to tailor support for patients with conditions affected by high or low appetite. Find out more about the AppeTypes study.

CROSS: Children’s Road Safety around School Study

Traffic restriction schemes are increasingly being implemented around schools in the United Kingdom. These schemes take many forms, including the use of volunteers to close streets during drop-off and pick-up times or use of council signage to announce restrictions and cameras to enforce them. In the CROSS study we are looking at how these schemes may influence children’s levels of active travel to school. Find out more about the CROSS study.

DEMOB: Biological sample collection for the Development, Evaluation and Monitoring of Biomarkers

The Nutritional Biomarker Laboratory requires blood or other biological samples to develop novel nutritional and related biomarker assays for use in human research. Whilst biological material can be purchased commercially, we are limited in what we can do with this material since it is often from a single donor and collected using protocols that may not be compatible with specific assays. We are therefore seeking volunteers to provide samples that have been collected, processed and stored in a specified manner. Find out more about DEMOB.

Fenland Study Phase 3

In late 2023 be began to invite participants from Phase 1 of the Fenland Study who agreed to be re-approached for future research to participate in Fenland Study Phase 3 (Fenland 3), and we will continue to send more invitations to participate in the coming months. Find out more about Fenland 3.

Perceptions of the concept of “ultra-processed foods” in UK adults

Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are being covered by the news more frequently, due to the recent release of books, TV programmes and podcasts on the topic. In this study we seek to understand your experiences and understanding of the term ultra-processed foods, or UPFs, to help research and Government understand public views on UPFs and help shape policies. Find out more.
