MRC Epidemiology Unit Studies

Cambridge Diabetes Case-Control Study

The Cambridgeshire Diabetes Case−Control Study (CDCCS) is a completed population−based case−control study set up to investigate genetic factors in the aetiology of type 2 diabetes. It comprises 517 volunteers with type 2 diabetes and 517 age and sex matched controls free of known diabetes recruited through GP practices in Cambridgeshire. Participants provided demographic information, past medical history and history of gastro-intestinal symptoms. A blood sample was provided for HbA1c, liver function tests and DNA analysis, and a stool specimen was analysed for faecal elastase-1.
