INTERPLAY

INTERPLAY Digital Intervention Development

Play is an important part of everyday life for children. Children enjoy playing and exploring, and there are different ways children may play.

A type of play that we are particularly interested in is called ‘adventurous play’. This is play that is thrilling and children can try out challenging activities (e.g. climbing a tree). Most children enjoy adventurous play as it is fun, exciting and can help them feel good about themselves. It also helps with developing skills that support concentration in school and making new friends.

Project aims

We are currently developing a mobile app for parents and caregivers of young children to promote activities that provide more adventurous play opportunities. We would like to learn from ideas/opinions from parents/caregivers of children aged 5-12 years in the app development process to ensure that the app will be acceptable and relevant to parenting in the UK.

Project status

The INTERPLAY UK team is currently inviting UK parents/caregivers of children aged 5-12 years to contribute your ideas/opinions to the app development process by joining two online group workshops and complete short follow-up questionnaires after each workshop in Jan 2026. Interviews will take place via Microsoft Teams, and last no longer than 90 min. Participation will be rewarded with a £40 voucher per completed workshop.
